Tungabhadra Pushkaram to be held in second week of December

Call to create awareness about Kalyanamastu programme

KURNOOL: TTD chairman D.K. Adikesavulu has promised support for celebrating Tungabhadra Pushkaram in the second week of December. The role of the TTD in the celebrations would be announced after discussing the matter at the TTD board meeting.

Mr. Adikesavulu addressed a meeting on creating awareness about Kalyanamastu programme here on Monday and called upon the officers and public representatives to work for making it a grand success. He said the programme was launched with a social outlook to reduce the financial burden on families caused by lavish wedding parties.

He said the TTD fed 30,000 to 40,000 devotees everyday and at weekends the number rose to one lakh. The TTD was supporting the education of 20,000 students besides giving free books to one lakh girl children. Under Pranadata programme, a number of hospitals were maintained.

Gold plating

Mr. Adikesavulu said gold plating of Gopuram and main temple would add elegance to the entire shrine, which was formally launched on October 1. He said 108-ft high statue of Annamacharya was being erected at Tallapaka besides starting a Dhyana Kendra.

Dharma Reddy, special officer, TTD, said even the rich were enrolling for Kalyanamastu programme as the ‘talibottu’ and ‘mettelu’ were a direct gift from Lord Venkateswara. The ornaments are sanctified by placing at the feet of the Lord.

He said Kalyanamastu was planned at 13 places in the district on November 2. Collector G. Balaramaiah, MLAs Channa Kesava Reddy, Saiprasad Reddy, Gouru Charita, Mayor S. Raghurami Reddy, DCCB Chief K. Anki Reddy, TDP leader S.V. Mohan Reddy and others were present.
