`Vizag needs better treatment'
VISAKHAPATNAM: Union Minister of State for Mines T. Subbrami Reddy has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to introduce Raipur-Secunderabad Garib Rath via Visakhapatnam.
In identical letters addressed to them, the Minister said that Visakhapatnam district was being neglected in railway development though the city was expected to get an investment of Rs. 40,000 crores in the coming years.
"Vizag is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and infrastructure with regard to the railways definitely needs a better treatment so that industrialisation does not go out of track," he said.
The Minister favoured extension of Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express up to Visakhapatnam.
The thrice-a-week New Delhi-Visakhapatnam Samatha Express should be operated daily so also Bhubnaswar-Chennai weekly express, he said.
Besides, Dr. Reddy wanted construction of a centrally air-conditioned computerised reservation complex in Visakhapatnam, sufficient funds for completion of platforms 7 and 8 in the city railway station, development of Duvvada as a satellite station and for laying of second line between Vizianagaram and Kothavalasa and the fourth line between Simhachalam and Kothavalasa.
