Trust gives away merit scholarship to 36 students

Friends For Education International is offering the facility

GUNTUR: Overcoming all odds, T. Prameela, who was born in a Dalit farm labourer's family in Srikakulum district, scored 557 marks the SSC examination.

Her father T. Tulasidas is a farm labourer and struggled to get his talented daughter in a government school.

Talented lot

His daughter kept her promise of doing well in studies.

She even won a merit scholarship instituted in the name of Ambedkar by Friends For Education International, a trust formed by professionals.

The FFEI presented the awards to 36 students born in poor Dalit families at a function held at Ambedkar Bhavan.

This is the ninth awards function.

As many as 36 students, who have topped in the SSC examinations, were presented with a cash award of Rs.5,000 by Joint Director, Social Welfare, Pothu Raju.

President, FFEI, Benjamin P. Kaila said that Ambedkar Scholarships which started in 2003 with just two scholarships, now presents 105 scholarships in five States.

General secretary P. Vijaya Vardhana Rao said that students who were given scholarships would also be provided with a biography of Dr. Ambedkar and books written by Kancha Ilaiah.
