Stages a dharna and rasta roko along with his supporters in Godavarikhani

TRS Ramagundam legislator Somarapu Satyanarayana, who raised a banner of revolt against the setting up of solar power plant by NTPC, Ramagundam, on its main campus, staged a dharna and rasta roko along with his supporters in Godavarikhani on Saturday.

It may be recalled that the NTPC Ramagundam proposed to set up a 25-MW solar power plant on its campus. Accordingly, it started the work for the setting up a 10-MW power plant in the first phase. But the locals have been opposing the project and have been urging the authorities to set up the plant at some other location in the company.

‘Not opposing’

Speaking to newsmen after the agitation, Mr. Satyanarayana said that they were not opposing the solar power plant.

“We want the power plant to be set up in other rocky area of the campus and the existing site should be utilised to set up a medical college or an IT park or for educational needs of the coal belt because of its prime location”, he said.

Mr. Satyanarayana said that he had represented the matter with the NTPC chairman and managing director and also Union power ministry, but in vain.

Irked over the adamant attitude of the NTPC management, he along with his supporters staged a dharna and rasta roko.

Arrested

The police arrested the protesters, including the legislator, and released them later.
