TRS will go it alone in local elections if it fails to clinch deal with the Congress
Alliance with Congress should be honourable, says TRS leaderTRS won 18 ZPTCs and 24 MPPs in last electionsTRS party cadre urged to get ready to contest all seats
NIZAMABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samithi will go it alone in the elections to local bodies if it fails to clinch a fair deal with the Congress in sharing of seats, according to party Political Affairs Committee State vice-chairman A.S. Posetty.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that the TRS wanted the poll alliance with the Congress to be honourable to his party as it emerged the largest party in the district in the last local body elections and secured the Zilla Parishad on its own.
In the last elections the TRS had won 18 ZPTCs as against the total of 36 and also 24 MPPs. It also secured 228 MPTCs out of 478 and about 500 sarpanch posts in the district. The Congress won 11 ZPTCs, while the TDP's strength was reduced to just seven in the ZP. Hence the TRS emerged victorious in three Assembly constituencies as against nine. Respecting the alliance with the Congress, the TRS left six Assembly seats to the former in the Assembly elections. If his party had contested on its own it would have won six Assembly seats, he said.
Ignoring the facts
The Congress at present had been ignoring facts and had been dodging the issue of sharing seats with the TRS, he said. The talks held between Congress and TRS leaders in the presence of the Minister for Information, Mohammad Ali Shabbir drew a blank with the Congress leaders being non-cooperative, he added. Mr. Posetty asked his party cadres to get ready to contest all ZPTCs, MPTCs and sarpanch posts, without waiting for the outcome of talks on alliance with the Congress leaders.
