KARIMNAGAR: Intensifying the agitation for Telangana state, Telangana Rashtra Samiti district unit leaders launched a relay hunger strike in the district on Wednesday.

In Karimnagar town, TRS members numbering around 40 led by local leaders Akula Prakash and Mahipal Reddy participated in the relay hunger strike in front of the Collectorate. They also raised slogans demanding formation of Telangana. Relay hunger strike camps set up in all the mandal headquarters of the district will continue till September 3.

Later, the TRS will gear up to participate in the `Praja Garjana' public meeting in Siddipet town on September 8. The district police have made elaborate bandobust at all the camps to avoid any untoward incident and also are videographing the proceedings.

Hostellers protest

Students of various social welfare hostels staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Wednesday asking the State Government to provide basic amenities in the hostels and increase mess charges by at least 25 per cent. Students of SC\ST and BC welfare hostels who participated in the dharna urged the Government to increase mess charges.
