The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has expressed concern over distorted media reports of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s comment that he never met party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, TRS senior leaders B. Vinod Kumar and others said there was nothing wrong in Mr. Shinde’s claim as the TRS president never claimed to have met Mr. Shinde. “He held discussions with senior Congress leaders Vayalar Ravi and Ghulam Nabi Azad in their capacity as Congress leaders.”
The party was holding discussions with Congress leaders in the hope that they would convince Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who is also chairperson of UPA government. Once a political decision was taken, it would be placed in front of the Cabinet.
The Cabinet’s decision would be forwarded to the President, after which it would come to the State Legislature for its views. The Home Ministry would come into the picture only after the Bill was introduced in Parliament and sent for the President’s assent, he said.
Meanwhile, in contrast to the TRS’ stand, Congress MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy criticised Mr. Shinde by stating that his observations were not correct.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Reddy said Congress Core Committee members were already in touch with KCR and have been holding wide ranging consultations with him for the last few months.
