Raises pro-Telangana slogans at OU convocation

HYDERABAD: A mild flutter was created during President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's convocation address at Osmania University here on Thursday when a Telangana Rashtra Samiti Vidyarti Vibhag leader raised pro-Telangana slogans.

As soon as Dr. Kalam reached the podium, TRSVV leader B. Suman held aloft a placard and shouted: "We want Telangana, CM down down". Security personnel whisked him away, even as the President began his address, unfazed by the incident.

Whisked away

Policemen, present in good numbers in the auditorium snatched the poster with Telangana slogans. As he raised slogans, a plainclothes policeman shut his mouth and he was bundled out.

Suman, hailing from Regunta village near Metpally in Karimnagar district, was later taken to Amberpet police station and was let off on bail. Tagore Auditorium, the convocation venue was totally sealed by the police, but Suman managed to enter using a valid additional pass given to the students being conferred with a degree.

He wore a pair of new `low-cut' shoes, which could be slipped off easily. He prepared a poster with pro-Telangana slogan and hid it inside a shoe.
