Rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on the occasion of his birth anniversary here on Wedesday celebrated as Children’s Day. School children presented cultural programmes in the function held at Sri Venkateswara Vignana Mandir.

Participating as the chief guest, Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao said the future belongs to children and they should study well and become good citizens.

MLC K.S. Lakshman Rao said Jawaharlal Nehru was a visionary who gave a direction to the country for growing into a global power. He had conceived several development projects which give India its strength.

MLC Singam Basavapunnaiah, Guntur East MLA Sk. Mastan Vali, Collector S. Suresh Kumar and others participated.

Later, the dignitaries gave away prizes to winners of various competitions.
