A 35-year-old tribal man was shot dead by suspected Maoists in the forest area near Narsingapeta in Chinturu mandal in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident took place just 2 km from Chhattisgarh border.

Branded as informer

According to information reaching here, the bullet-riddled body of Alem Sammaiah was found on the outskirts of the village.

A letter, purportedly written by the Naxalites branding Sammaiah as a police informer, was recovered from the site. Sammiaah hailed from Wajedu mandal in Bhadrachalam division.

The Chinturu police shifted the body to the mandal headquarters for autopsy.

Reacting strongly to the killing, Kothagudem Officer on Special Duty T. Srinivasa Rao, in a statement, alleged that the Maoists killed Sammaiah on false charges. “There was no association between Sammaiah and the Police Department,” he added.
