Armed miscreants, suspected to be Maoist militia members, gunned down a 30-year-old tribal man of Gutti Koya community at Angarigudem, a tribal settlement under Karakagudem police station limits in Pinapaka mandal, on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Nupa Shiva, 30, of Angarigudem. He originally hails from Konta block of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh.
He is believed to have been serving as a sarpanch in his village in the strife-torn State, police sources added.
Sources said that a group of armed miscreants barged into Shiva’s house by demolishing a portion of the mud wall around 1 a.m. The miscreants shot him dead from point blank range.
The police is clueless about the exact motive behind the murder. Shiva had migrated to Angarigudem from Konta block of the neighbouring State a couple of years ago.
He had been shuttling between his native village in Chhattisgarh and his temporary abode in Angarigudem since the last couple of years.
The police recovered two empty rounds of 9 mm pistol from the incident site.
