The Transport Department is gearing up for truckers strike to begin on April 1, to protest against rising diesel prices and high insurance premium.

Deputy Transport Commissioner Sivaramprasad held several rounds of meetings with the staff and truck operations to assess the impact of the strike in Kurnool district.

District Collector also reviewed the situation.

According to Mr. Sivaramprasad, 15,000 trucks were likely to go off the road in Kurnool district in case of the strike.

The officials discussed the proposal to engage mini-lorries and four-wheeler trucks to transport essential items like vegetables and other food stuffs.

APSRTC will transport cargo and employ some buses exclusively for cargo transport.
