Transgenders led by Samatha Hijadas’ Rights Forum and Ishika Ranjan Charitable Society would undertake padayatra from Nandyal to Hyderabad in June with a charter of demands, according to P. Vijayakumar, president of the Forum. In a statement, he said the organisation presented a charter of demands to the President of India and Vice-President for sympathetic consideration. The demands include request for President to dine with select group of transgenders comprising 33 persons to set the tone for acceptance of their distinct status in society. He said the transgenders constituted about 7 crore population in the country and 25 lakh in Andhra Pradesh, but they were never recognised as third sex.
