ANANTAPUR: Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy has cautioned officials of AP Transco against lethargy in power supply to the farm sector, particularly in repairing the burnt out transformers. Standing crops are being affected due to the delay in repairing the problematic transformers.
In a review meeting held here on Wednesday night on the drought conditions, alternative crops, fodder raising, wage employment, crop loans and other issues, the Minister directed the Transco officials to replace or repair the burnt out transformers within 24 hours to protect the standing crops under borewells.
Anantapur Member of Parliament A. Venkatarami Reddy complained that the elected representatives like him were getting representations from the farmers over the neglect of burnt transformers.
The out of order transformers were not being replaced or repaired for more than a week in most of the instances.
The Minister instructed the rural water supply officials to coordinate with the Transco officials and told them to be cautious against non-supply of water on account of electricity problems.
He also chided the officials on interruptions in water supply to Hindupur from the NSR drinking water project.
The Minister directed the officials to encourage farmers to raise fodder in about fivelakh hectares left uncovered in the kharif season to overcome the looming fodder problem by supplying the fodder seed on subsidy.
