Commuters on the major arteries in the State capital were at their wit's end on Thursday as vehicular traffic movement came to a standstill on Panjagutta cross roads owing to the unveiling of the statue of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

With the main artery being shut down for most part of the morning, traffic jams were witnessed on all surrounding trunk roads during morning peak hours.

The bumper-to-bumper traffic swelled up to Kukatpally on one side and up to Lakdikapul on the other.

Resultantly, Mehdipatnam, Banjara Hills, Begumpet and Tank Bund routes too were clogged. Some semblance of order could be restored only after the statue unveiling function was over. The statue was erected on the kidney island on the Panjagutta cross roads.

The bad condition of roads had also contributed to the sluggish movement of traffic.
