The revolutionary event ‘One Billion Rising’ was launched at Bhudevi complex, Alipiri in the city on Thursday, with 35 women getting to let their voice heard in unison.

At a programme organised by a voluntary organisation Women’s Initiatives (WINS), women gathered at the venue where the call was given to them to refuse to participate in the status quo until the end of rape and rape culture.

“Demonstrating an act of solidarity, women exhibited the commonality of their struggles and their power in numbers.

Our pledge was marked by the refusal to accept violence against women and girls”, said R. Meera, secretary of WINS.

The pledge was taken by women across 140 countries. V-Day is a new beginning for the project ‘Me and My World’, in which fifty women build capacities to restoring and deepening their agency, supported by HIVOS, Netherlands.
