The South Central Railway Vijayawada division garnered Rs 2.43 crore during ticket-checking drive conducted on passenger and express trains last month.

A total of 83,263 cases of ticket-less travel and un-booked luggage were registered, according to a press release. Eighty six passengers who failed to pay the dues were prosecuted.

The drive was conducted under the supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager N.V. Satyanarayana.

A sum of Rs 9.59 lakh was collected towards the difference of old and new fares during the month. Passenger fares were increased from the mid-night of October 7.

A cleanliness drive conducted during the period yielded Rs 3.24 lakh, according to a press release.
