The Suryapet police on Thursday arrested three pseudo-naxalates who claimed to be sympathisers of the CPI (ML-Janashakti) —D. Ramamurthy alias Ravi, G. Komaraiah and G. Mallaiah — after they allegedly tried to extort Rs.2 lakh from a local jeweller.
Another fake extremist Y. Uppalaiah managed to escape. They were nabbed while ‘moving under suspicious circumstances' near an engineering college, according to G. Madhusudan Rao, Circle Inspector.
The police, who seized a ‘tapancha' and two bullets from the arrested persons, said that the accused had been threatening the traders for the last one year, after their finance business collapsed. Ramamurthy had worked with the Praja Pratighatana group of naxalites.
