It is always a task to obtain a driving license or register a vehicle at a Regional Transport Authority office in twin cities. But Joint Transport Commissioner B. Venkateswarlu insists that ever since online system was introduced, things have improved a lot in the Transport Department.

Many applicants could not take driving license tests or register their vehicles during the employees' non-cooperation movement. How are you dealing with the situation?

We have already rescheduled tests date. It is true there is some convenience as the department is already under-staffed. But, we have increased the time to accommodate more applicants and we are making sure all applicants take their tests.

It is always tough to get slots for booking Learner's License or Permanent Driving License tests? What measures are taken in this regard?

The department has increased the slots from 1,100 to 1,400 per day. This apart, three new driving tracks were also introduced, enabling more applicants to take tests. Presently, there are 21 driving tracks in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts. Six more tracks would be increased shortly.

Though the online system was introduced, regular technical snags and server breakdowns are affecting the services?

This problem persisted earlier but not now. The department now has exclusive leased line and the problem of server breakdown has come down considerably. At times, due fluctuations in power supply or connectivity, there are few problems but those problems are fixed within minutes.

Despite online system, people complain about poor service and prefer agents?

Firstly, no agent is recognised and this concept was abolished long back. If an applicant faces any trouble, he or she can lodge a complaint over the online grievance cell on the department's website ‘'.

It takes long time for an applicant to receive license or registration certificate through posts?

It is true there is some delay but we are working on this issue. Whenever, an applicant lodges a complaint on the grievance cell, department authorities follow up the case and solve it at the earliest.
