Police on Thursday arrested a history-sheeter, Syed Najaf Ali, 33, and two of his associates, who allegedly procured a firearm to eliminate their rival gang leader Mohd. Fiaz.

A ‘tapancha' with two live rounds, two daggers and a Maruti 800 were seized from Ali, Jaber Ali Zaidi, 24, and Mazhar Ali Razvi, 25, the Commissioner's Task Force (Central) Inspector, Ch.Y. Srinivas Kumar, said. Ali of Aliabad in Shahalibanda of Old City was accused of involvement in several crimes, including three murders and some robberies.

He had rivalry with Ayub Khan and Mohd. Fayaz, both history-sheeters. Members of one gang used to attack those of the other and hatched plots to eliminate one another. Ali planned to attack Ayub Khan, who was recently convicted to life imprisonment in a murder case and is presently in prison, earlier but was caught by the Task Force.

Ali and his associates were again arrested in January of 2010 for allegedly attacking Zaffar Javed, member of a Sultan-ul-Uloom Education Society over a pending land dispute. As Ayub Khan was in prison, Ali targeted his second rival Fiaz and secured the ‘tapancha' from Maharashtra for Rs. 5,000.

To mislead police and the rival gangs, they wrote ‘PRESS' on the front and rear windscreens of the four-wheeler. On a tip-off, the TF team caught them at Santoshnagar.
