Around 3,000 devotees from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka took part in the Metlotsavam (festival of steps) organised on Saturday to commemorate the 510th Vardhanti (death anniversary) of Tallapaka Annamacharya, which falls on Sunday.

Singing the compositions penned by the saint-poet, the devotees trekked the Tirumala hills, in the process, smearing turmeric and vermilion paste and lighting camphor on each and every step. Some devotees and descendents of the Tallapaka lineage carried mini-idols of Annamayya while trekking the hills.

Medasani Mohan, Director of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam's Annamacharya Project, took part in the event and addressed the devotees.
