WARANGAL: The third phase of development works under the Andhra Pradesh Urban Services for the Poor (APUSP) was launched by Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah here on Friday.
At a function held for the purpose at Warangal Municipal Corporation (WMC) premises, Mr. Lakshmaiah said the corporation was in a position to give drinking water connection for just Rs. 1, 200. The policies being adopted by the Central Government made it all possible to extend desired facilities for people in the corporation limit. Earlier, Mayor Errabelli Swarna said the corporation got Rs. 25.93 crores under the third phase of APUSP programme. Of the 109 works contemplated, 87 were completed and the rest 22 were under progress. Social Welfare Minister D. S. Redya Naik advised the corporation officials to decrease the administrative costs and pass on the benefit to the poor by improving infrastructure facilities.
B. Vinod Kumar, Hanamkonda MP, pointed out that a recent survey indicated that there was more number of poor in towns compared to rural areas. Hence, more funds need to be pumped to improve slums, provide drinking water and electricity in under developed areas under the corporation limits.
