VIJAYAWADA: Residents of Kanuru overpowered a 40-year-old man and beat him on the charge of stealing cash and jewellery from a house on Saturday morning.
A few persons found Venkateswara Rao, 40, coming out of the house of Tirumalasetti Vijayalakshmi around 9 a.m. They caught him and began manhandling him. In the meanwhile, Vijayalakshmi found that a pair of gold ear studs and Rs. 13,000 of cash was missing from her house.
Even as the police rushed to the rescue of Venkateswara Rao and saved him from being lynched, the irate mob argued with the police by demanding that he be handed over to them so that they could “teach (him) a fitting lesson”.
The police managed to shift him to the Government General Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment.
