HYDERABAD: T.G. Venkatesh, MLA and president of Rayalaseema Rights United Forum (Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika), wants people of all districts in the State to participate in a referendum to decide whether they want to be part of Andhra Pradesh (with Hyderabad as Capital) or a separate State.

In a status report released to the media, Mr. Venkatesh said that in the referendum, the districts, which decide to be separated maybe combined to form a new State. He noted that if a referendum was conducted more than 90 per of people from each district would vote for a united State.

To buttress his point that Telangana region had witnessed rapid development and phenomenal growth, the Congress MLA referred to the situation in 1956-57 and 2007-08.

He said while the net irrigated areas in 1956-57 in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions was 20.67 lakh hectares it rose to 28.96 lakh hectares in 2007-08. But, on the other hand, the area leapt from 8.01 lakh hectares (1956-57) to 17.48 lakh hectares (2007-08).

As per the socio-economic survey GDP of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram are Rs 6036 crore and Rs 5705 crore respectively. Where as the GDP of Ranga Reddy, Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal are Rs. 18627 crore,Rs 12,264 crore, Rs 10,600 crore and Rs, 8,451 crore respectively.
