NANDYAL: Tension prevailed at Nandyal Sugar Factory on Monday following farmers’ agitation for enhancement of the cane price. A large number of farmers led by MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy and MP S.P.Y. Reddy gathered at the factory demanding a higher price. The factory management led by MD Madhusudan Gupta refused to concede the demand saying the Minister for Housing Shilpa Mohan Reddy mediated a price of Rs. 1,620 per tonne only last month. Enraged farmers pelted stones breaking the glass panes of the factory office. An altercation took place between management and public representatives. The farmers demanded enhancement saying other factories agreed to pay Rs. 1,900 to Rs 2,200.
