Tense moments were witnessed near the railway station here on Sunday when pro-Telangana activists made an abortive attempt to break the police cordon and enter into the railway station on the second day of the Telangana JAC sponsored rail blockade stir.
The police, who were deployed in a large number in front of the railway station, foiled their bid by using ropes. CPI district secretary B. Hemantha Rao suddenly fainted during the melee that ensued. He was shifted to a nearby hospital. Later, the police detained several protesters including the leaders of the CPI, CPI (ML-New Democracy) and TRS. In a separate incident, CPI (ML-ND) senior leader and former MLA Gummadi Narsaiah, POW leader Chandra Aruna and several others were detained by the police when they squatted on the railway track at Gandhipuram railway station in Karepalli mandal. They were shifted to the local police station.
