With their arrival, countdown for the PFR begins
VISAKHAPATNAM: Ten ships of the Western Fleet, including INS Virat, India's only aircraft carrier, arrived here on Friday with R.F. Contractor, Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet.
They will take part in the President's Fleet Review (PFR) scheduled to be held from February 11 to 13. The ships, which entered the harbour were INS Mumbai, INS Mysore, INS Ganga, INS Talwar, INS Betwa, INS Brahmaputra, INS Gomti, INS Suvarna and INS Aditya. INS Virat would be berthing in the port soon.
Clean beach drive
With the arrival of Western fleet ships, the countdown for the PFR began.
As a prelude to the PFR, the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) is organising a 'clean beach drive' by children of various schools at Ramakrishna Beach on Sunday morning.
RK Beach is the main venue for the Operational Display, the most significant event of the PFR.
Debris and other materials on the beach will be cleared in the drive, to be flagged off by Vice Admiral Sureesh Mehta, Flag Officer Commanding Chief of the Eastern Naval Command .
The drive will be taken up from Viswapriya Function Hall to the Kursura Museum.
