HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party nominee for Chevella Lok Sabha constituency A. P. Jithender Reddy created a flutter on Sunday by calling on Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday.
Mr. Reddy, who had already filed his nomination papers from Mahabubnagar and Chevella Lok Sabha constituencies, met Dr. Reddy at his camp office. The two were closeted for over 20 minutes.
Sources said Mr. Reddy had aspired for the Mahabubnagar LS ticket, which was allotted to the TRS as part of the seat sharing. Initially, TRS secretary general and actor Vijayashanti was named the candidate but party chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao had to shift from Medak after she refused to enter the fray. As part of the seat adjustment, the TDP shifted Mr. Reddy to Chevella but he is reportedly not keen on contesting from there. Interestingly enough, Congress candidate from Chevella is Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy, who is from Mahabubnagar district.
Meanwhile, a number of CPI(M) leaders and cadres from Khammam district joined the Congress in the presence of Chief Minister.
Led by Union Minister Renuka Chowdary, who is the Congress candidate for Khammam LS seat, the CPI (M) leaders said they decided to join the ruling party as they were unhappy with certain decisions taken by their district unit.
