Naidu to lead dharna against land irregularities

Eight TD teams constituted to study corruption

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu will visit Anantapur on Thursday to interact with groundnut farmers whose crop reportedly failed over an area of 21 lakh acres on account of poor seasonal conditions.

Party sources said he will lead a dharna at Tadepalligudem on Saturday to focus irregularities in land transactions by Government and price rise.

They also said the leadership had constituted eight teams to study corruption at various levels of Government. The teams will visit revenue divisional headquarters in various parts of the State and lead agitations against corruption locally.

‘Publicity stunt’

Meanwhile, former Telugu Desam MP Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy told a press conference on Monday that the ‘Indiramma Sambaralu’ observed by the Government was a publicity stunt ahead of elections. He wondered whether the programme was a festival as the name suggested or the Congress government invited farewell from people. Moreover, he asked whether the occasion was warranted when farmers suffered from non-remunerative prices and several farmers and weavers had committed suicide. Even the general public was frustrated as they purchased tomatoes at Rs. 70 a kg.
