Focus now on Chittoor and Madanapalle divisions which go to polls on July 27 and 31 respectively

Sarpanch candidates backed by the Telugu Desam Party romped home in the eastern mandals of the district, coming under the Tirupati revenue division, in the first phase of the Panchayat elections. The YSRC and the Congress had to be content with the second and third positions.

The results nevertheless have an impact on the campaign in the Chittoor and Madanapalle revenue divisions, which are scheduled to go to polls on July 27 and 31respectively.

It is in the Madanapalle division that the constituencies of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and YSRC strongman Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy are located and hence has caught the attention of poll pundits. With a benchmark having been fixed, politicking has touched a feverish pitch in the two western divisions.

With the successful conduct of elections in 241 Panchayats in the Tirupati division, the district authorities are now turning their attention to the other two. The officers drafted for duty in Chittoor and Madanapalle have been asked to report to duty at the respective mandals allotted to them on July 25 and July 29 respectively.

A huge contingent of 37 senior officials placed at various rungs in the district’s administrative setup has been made in-charge of the 20 mandals in Chittoor division and the 31 mandals in Madanapalle division.

There is a lot of buzz in Chandragiri constituency, which has the peculiarity of going to polls in all the three phases. Virtually divided among the three revenue divisions, the Assembly segment has officials on their toes.
