HYDERABAD: Congress Ministers and MLAs from Telangana region have thanked United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the Centre’s announcement on initiating the process for formation of Telangana State.
By a resolution adopted unanimously at a meeting held to celebrate the announcement, Telangana Congress leaders cautioned the party high command against the efforts of the “inimical forces” to dilute the process for formation of a separate State. The high command should not succumb to the pressure mounted by these forces which “merit no sympathy” after expressing views in defiance of the orders issued by the leadership.
The meeting also cautioned the protagonists of separate Telangana against complacency in the light of the “pressure being mounted on the high command by those opposed to fulfilment of the long-cherished dream of the people of the region”. There was a long way to go before the separate State became a reality and the need of the hour for the people was to stand united. Senior Congress leaders G. Venkatswamy, M. Satyanarayana Rao, K. Jana Reddy, T. Jeevan Reddy and R. Damodar Reddy, Ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Jupalli Krishna Rao, K. Venkat Reddy, R. Venkat Reddy, D.K. Aruna, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and P. Sudershan Reddy, former Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy were among those present.
