  • Seek halt to proposal to sell IMG land at Rs. 5000-cr.
  • `Andhra non-tribals occupy tribal land in Telangana'

HYDERABAD: The State BJP has decided to launch a `jail bharo' (fill up jails) and a village-to-village campaign after the Legislative Council election, seeking formation of separate Telangana before the next Assembly election in 2009.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, BJP Telangana committee leaders Ch. Vidyasagar Rao and D. K. Samarasimha Reddy said the party would go all out into campaign mode on the Telangana issue, as it was the best time for introduction of the necessary Bill in Parliament with BJP favouring it. Though the Congress too was in favour, it was dodging the issue, they said.

They took exception to Finance Minister K. Rosaiah's announcement in the Assembly that 850

acres of IMG land near Hyderabad would be sold away to fetch Rs. 5,000 crores and sought an immediate halt to it. "There could be no other ridiculous step than this".

They were also critical of Rayalaseema Aikya Vedika leader T. G. Venkatesh's and Congress MP Harirama Jogaiah's charge that Telangana got more than its due.

True to what he said, even the latest report submitted by J. M. Girglani Committee stated that a number of non-tribals from Andhra region have occupied vast extents of land in Khammam and Warangal, they said.
