Weavers’ Service Centre, Vijayawada, will be organising a week-long ‘Appropriate Technology Exhibition’ at Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce at Gandhi Nagar in the city.
The event will commence on Thursday (February 21) and will be open for public up to February 27. The objective of the expo is to sensitise handloom weavers of the technological innovations and advancements in the field of handlooms made by Weavers Service Centre and other organisations in various parts of the country.
Display and demonstration of a number of techniques and advancements suitable for the handloom industry will enlighten the weavers’ community in multiple extra weft buta mechanism, SPS korvai (anchu kuttu) sley weaving, pneumatic jacquard saree weaving, 2-in-1, tie-and-dye design weaving and textile testing machines.
The exhibition will also serve as a platform for weavers to sell handloom cloth, saris and furnishings. A mix of traditional handloom fabrics like Jamdhani silk sari, Mangalagiri cotton dress material, Chirala rich pallu sarees, Warangal durries, Gadwal sarees, tie and dye sarees and dress material and Cherukupalli shirting will be on sale.
