The State government has constituted a five-member team to visit Amalapuram and other areas in East Godavari which witnessed trouble following desecration of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's statues.
Accordingly, Ministers P. Vishwarup, D. Manikya Varaprasad, Thota Narasimham and C. Ramachandraiah besides Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka would visit the areas to interact with the people appealing them to cooperate in restoring calm. They would instil confidence among people about the government's resolve to take steps in ensuring that such incidents do not recur.
This was decided at a meeting with senior Ministers convened by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy here on Thursday to review the situation. In-charge Minister of East Godavari Anam Ramanarayana Reddy will accompany the delegation.
Briefing reporters later, Transport Minister Botcha Satyanarayana said he suspected attempts by vested interests to create problems to the government in a bid to destabilise it, but dismissed charges that the incidents were result of the infighting within the Congress.
He replied in the negative when asked whether statements by Congress MP G.V. Harsha Kumar against PRP president K. Chiranjeevi led to tension in the area. “He (Mr. Harsha Kumar) is not connected as the incidents took place in the areas where the weaker sections are predominant,” he said.
The Minister, who is also the PCC chief, said the meeting discussed about the party's strategy for bye-elections to seven Assembly seats. Asked whether the party considered them as a referendum, he said efforts would be made to identify lapses and ensure effective implementation of welfare schemes if the results went against the party.
To a question about YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy's complaint of ``persecution'' by the Government, he said Mr. Jagan was only trying to garner sympathy. “He is worried that the ongoing investigation will bring out the facts about irregularities committed in various deals,” he said. TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu's claims on the Congress-YSR Congress collusion too did not carry any weight as people were not prepared to trust him.
