The government is toying with the idea of making teachers accountable if children studying in schools do not get proper education as part of the Right to Education Act that came into force last year.

Minister for School Education S. Sailajanath is reported to have returned a file pertaining to staff rules on Right to Education, as it did not make teachers accountable for children not learning any thing either up to class V or VIII. Under the Right to Education Act, children between 6 and 14 years are to be provided compulsory education by the government.
