TIRUPATI: Speakers at the meeting held here on Wednesday to commemorate the birth anniversary of former President, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, recalled his services to the nation and lauded him as a great teacher and philosopher par excellence.
“It is not without reason that the entire nation remembers him more as a teacher, rather than as a President”, Collector S.S.Rawat said while showering encomiums on the great teacher-turned-statesman.
In his presidential address at the meeting, Mr.Rawat sought quality education be imparted to the students to make them productive citizens of tomorrow and pointed to the role of teachers in the endeavour. He also appealed to the teachers to stand as ‘role models’ not only for their students, but to the society at large.
Speaking on the absence of basic facilities at the primary school level, the Tirupati Member of Parliament Chinta Mohan wondered how quality education could be imparted in the absence of a desirable ambience. He also listed out the steps being taken by the UPA Government to improve educational standards. MLA M.Venkataramana, SPMVV Vice-Chancellor Veena Noble Dass and District Educational Officer K.Hymavathy also spoke.
Among those who were felicitated on the occasion were J.Hanumayamma, head mistress of Sudhaha Little Citizens High School and M.Subhashini, music teacher of Jawahar Bal Bhavan. Headmasters and head mistresses of schools that achieved cent per cent results were felicitated on the occasion. . The TTD Educational Officer K. Nagaraju felicitated SV Arts College Vice-Principal N. Nagendra Sai, P.N.Vasudevan and Ranganath Pillai, head of Dairy Science and Chemistry departments respectively on Teachers Day.
