Model code of conduct comes into force in three north coastal districts
The model code of conduct for the election of MLC from the Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam graduates constituency has come into force from Monday and will be in force till the results are declared, Collector and District Election Officer V. Sheshadri informed reporters here on Monday.
The model code of conduct will be in force in all the three districts.
The ongoing programmes would continue but laying foundation stones and inaugurations would not take place. Collector of each district would enforce the code of conduct in his or her respective district. Additional Joint Collector Y. Narasimha Rao has been designated as the Model Code Implementation Officer and all complaints can be referred to him, the Collector said.
Elections to the north Andhra teachers’ constituency was being held since the term of the present MLC would end on March 29. The Election Commission announced the elections on January 23 and the notification was issued on Monday, he said.
Monday is the first day to receive nominations but no nomination paper was filed.
The last date for filing nominations is February 4 and nominations will be accepted between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day. The scrutiny of nominations would be done on February. 5 and withdrawal of nominations is allowed till February 7.
The polling would take place on February 21 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and counting of votes would take place on February 25 in Visakhapatnam.
The venue for counting was not decided yet. There are 121 polling stations in the three districts and a total of 14,393 are expected to exercise their franchise.
The number of voters district-wise is 4,611 in Srikakulam; 3,711 in Vizianagaram and 6,071 in Visakhapatnam.
