Sheik Abdulla (35), a tea shop vendor, attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze in Old City.

Leaders of Samaikyandhra rushed to the General Hospital where he was undergoing treatment and offered financial assistance saying he was upset by the news of proposed division of the State. According to family sources, Abdulla’s income had gone down since the start of the agitation for united AP. Abdulla, who has two children and whose wife – Munni -- is pregnant, was depressed and spent the whole day on Tuesday watching TV. At night, he set himself ablaze on the terrace of his house. His wife was not around when the incident took place. He was admitted to the burns ward in a serious condition.

Financial assistance

Leaders of the Joint Action Committee visited the hospital and offered financial assistance.

Minister for Minor Irrigation T.G. Venkatesh announced a financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh. S.V. Mohan Reddy of the YSR Congress offered Rs. 4,000, and others followed suit.
