HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party will strive to remove the last vestiges of factions in villages in the backward Rayalaseema region.
"As Congress leaders encourage bloodshed, TDP cadres all over the State are donating blood on my birthday," said party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, addressing party members who had come to NTR Memorial Trust Bhavan to donate blood on Mr. Naidu's 56th birthday.
He regretted that the Congress was repeatedly saying that the TDP was not cooperating with the Government to put an end to factionalism.
It was the Congress which was attacking TDP leaders and cadres and not the other way, he said, adding that in Anantapur district alone 27 TDP men had been killed. It was Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's responsibility to stop political killings, he said.
On the murder of former MLA K. Suryapratap Reddy, Mr. Naidu said there could not be any incident more brutal.
His assailants stabbed him 30 times," he said.
Party loyalists from Shadnagar, led by former MLA B. Narasimhulu donated blood on Thursday.
They have been doing so on Mr. Naidu's birthday every year for the sixth year in succession. Party secretary Srisailam, who has been organising blood donation camps for the past year, said the number of donors had crossed 12,000 until March 29, the TDP Formation Day.
