ANANTAPUR: A delegation of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) examined the condition of groundnut crop in several villages in Kuderu, Uravakonda and Pedda Vaduguru mandals in the district on Friday. The exercise was undertaken to study the damaged caused by heavy rain this season to the main crop in the district.

State president of Telugu Rythu, farmers wing of the TDP, Ch. Muthyam Reddy, MP E. Dayakar Rao, legislators D. Narendra Kumar, V. Narender Reddy, P. Keshav, B.C. Govindappa, M. Govinda Reddy, MLC Palle Raghunatha Reddy, party leaders K. Srinivasulu, U. Hanumantharaya Chowdary, P. Shamanthakamani and others comprised the team.

At Muddalapuram village in Kuderu mandal they examined groundnut crop in the fields of farmers Vannurappa, Laxmidevi, Shakuntalamma, Nagaratnamma and others. The farmers informed the TDP leaders that they had invested heavily to cultivate groundnut this season and but were in danger of not even getting back their investment.

The TDP leaders demanded the government to pay a crop loss compensation of Rs. 10,000 per acre to the farmers as they had invested heavily in the face of unprecedented price rise of all inputs this year. They also urged the officials to take up crop cutting experiments immediately to assess damage.
