To highlight the plight of common public, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and activists stepped up their protest programmes against the electricity surcharge and increased power bills in Nellore city.
The TDP cadres started a relay hunger strike at the Gandhi Bomma Centre here on Saturday and raised slogans against the government for causing untold misery to the people by slapping huge power bills.
They also held a novel protest seeking rescue and relief from the pain being caused by the huge power bills. TDP city president Kotamreddy Srinivasulu Reddy and other leaders were present at the protest programmes.
Mr. Srinivasulu Reddy warned the Congress of having to pay a heavy price if it did not mend its ways and ensure that there would be no more high power bills.
The TDP leader asserted that during the regime of the TDP, there was no crisis in the power sector.
