Alleges that land belonging to `Hathiramji Mutt' in Tirupati was sold at throwaway prices in Maharashtra

TIRUPATI: TDP protested against the alleged scam involving properties in Maharashtra belonging to the Tirupati-based `Hathiramji Mutt'. The TDP activists led by the Tirupati Municipal Chairman, K. Sankar Reddy took out a procession through the main streets of the town and converged before the head office of the Mutt here shouting slogans and wielding placards.

Addressing the protesters, Mr. Reddy charged that "vested interests" in the Congress were behind the multi-crore scandal executed allegedly in connivance with the personnel of the Mutt and officials in the Endowments Department. He accused that because of the lackadaisical attitude of the State Government property at different places in Maharashtra -- worth about Rs.450 crores -- belonging to the mutt were disposed of for a throw away price of Rs. 10 crores to those who enjoyed the 'patronage' of the ruling party.

He demanded that the Government take steps to protect the lands.
