The proposed diversion of water from Kandaleru reservoir to Chittoor was raised in the Irrigation Advisory Board meeting held at the Collectorate here on Monday.

When Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and District Collector N. Srikanth were about to begin the IAB meet, Telugu Desam Party MLAs raised the issue and took strong objection to the efforts to divert 6.61 tmcft water from Kandaleru. The opposition MLAs threatened to take up severe forms of protest like damaging the pipelines if the government did not go back on its attempts to illegally take away the additional water from Kandaleru as this would prove detrimental to the interests of the farmers in Nellore, Chittoor and Kadapa districts.

At one point, TDP MLAs Kurugonda Ramakrishna and Parasa Ratnam went up to the dais and registered their protest. They sat in the well there and raised slogans against the proposed diversion of Kandaleru water.
