  • A gang raided the house and hacked the couple to death
  • Police suspect family feud

KURNOOL: Vaikuntam Sriramulu (72), TDP strongman of Aluru constituency and former chief of District Cooperative Central Bank and his wife Sakuntala (65) were hacked to death at Chippagiri in Kurnool district on Saturday night.

According to reports, the septuagenarian and his wife were in their house around 7 pm when an unidentified gang raided the house and killed them. The couple suffered indiscriminate knife and axe injuries. Power supply was off in the village at the time of the incident. Mr. Sriramulu had played an active role in the party in Aluru constituency acting as de facto MLA whenever TDP won the election (The constituency was reserved for SCs).

The police could not immediately pinpoint the motive behind the murder. However, Mr. Sriramulu had a feud with his sister Govindamma (former ZPTC member), whose son Beldona Ashok was murdered near Guntakal in May 2002. Mr. Sriramulu and his sons figured as accused in the murder.

The police started the investigation from the angle of family feud and political enmity as well.
