The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has alleged that the YSR Congress party was in a dilemma over categorisation of the Scheduled Castes. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, TDP state general secretary Varla Ramaiah said that the YSR Congress Party could not take a firm stand on the SC categorisation when the Bill was presented in the State Assembly.
The party which voted for amendments in the Scheduled Castes sub-plan as per categorisation into A,B,C and D groups in the Assembly has opposed it in the Legislative Council, he pointed out.
The TDP moved an amendment to the Bill to ensure allocation of funds for the SCs on the basis of their categorisation into A, B, C, D classes based on population and backwardness.
As the government wanted the Bill to be passed in the same format as it was presented, the TDP pressed for a division.
The YSR Congress made a volte face by opposing it in the Council. The YSR Congress MLCs Narayana Reddy and Tippa Reddy abstained from voting when the Bill was presented in the Council, while Jupudi Prabhakar Rao voted in favour of the Congress party.
It was a clear indication that the party has no stance on the issue though former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy introduced a Bill in the Assembly during his tenure. Ms. Vijayamma should spell out whether her party would suspend Mr. Prabhakar who voted against the SC categorisation.
‘Vijayamma voted in favour of the categorisation only after Akbaruddin Owaisi gave a hint’
