Naidu promises to develop Gudivada on par with Kuppam

How to retain the Gudivada Assembly constituency seat seems to be a big question before Telugu Desam Party (TDP) if the recent developments, tone and tenor of its president N. Chandrababu Naidu were any indication.

The TDP leader devoted most of his time in chanting ‘NTR mantra’ during his speech, and attempted to remind people of N.T. Rama Rao’s association with Gudivada constituency. He went further and said Gudivada has a special page in the history of Telugu Desam and will be accorded priority on a par with the Kuppam constituency (represented by him).

Indirectly referring to sitting MLA Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao (Nani), who parted ways with the party, Mr. Naidu said, “Do not trust the leaders who switch loyalties to other parties.”

The TDP leaders moved earth and heaven to the padayatra in the town a grand success. As part of the plans, the Telugu Desam has pressed cine actor Nandamuri Balakrishna into action.

Though the party leaders, in open, tried to downplay cine actor Nandamuri Balakrishna joining ‘Vastunna Meekosam’ padayatra of Mr. Naidu, the leaders in private agreed that Mr. Balakrishna camped at Komavaravelli village near Gudivada to “gear up” the cadre for ‘Vastunna Meekosam’ padayatra of Mr. Naidu.

Leaving apart the pep talks, motivation and efforts to instil confidence among the cadre, the Telgu Desam leaders were visibly upset over the sparse turnout of the people at the public meeting at Nehru Centre here. The padayatra is a major show of the party, after Mr. Nani left the party. They recalled that the roads used to be jam-packed whenever the party organised a meeting. The expulsion of sitting Mr. Nani has virtually wrecked the party in the town. Though Ravi Venkateswara Rao joined the cauldron as party in charge in Gudivada immediately after Mr. Nani left the party.
