HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam has demanded the GHMC to hold elections to the ward and standing committee as per the scheduled dates of May 15 and 18, respectively.

Taking strong objection to the sudden postponement of the polls to May 18 (ward panels) and May 24 (standing panel), party Floor Leader S. Srinivas Reddy said it only reflected the lack of proper coordination in the Congress party ranks.

Talking to presspersons on Friday, he charged that neither Commissioner Sameer Sharma nor Mayor B. Kartika Reddy could provide a valid reason for putting off the polls. “Citizens are eagerly waiting for the ward and standing committees to be formed so that grassroot-level discussions and action can be taken up,” he pointed out.

Mr. Reddy said these polls should not be held hostage to the “Gandhi Bhavan politics” with various groups unable to reconcile to competing interests. His party would formally stage a protest on Saturday.
