Party spokesman questions Opposition party's double standard
Congress refutes TDP criticism on pruning of security cover for its leadersTDP charge of forcing out candidates from contest ridiculedObjection to blaming of police personnel by TDP
HYDERABAD: APCC spokesperson N. Tulasi Reddy on Tuesday alleged that the Telugu Desam leaders were flooding the villages with liquor and money to influence the voters in the local bodies' elections.
The main Opposition party was spending up to Rs.3 crores to corner ZPTCs in districts like Krishna and Kadapa, he alleged.
Addressing a press conference, he said that on one hand the TDP was petitioning the courts and authorities against the ruling party, while attacking its leaders in the villages on the other.
The attack on Government Whip D.Sridhar Babu in Karimnagar on Monday was one such instance. He said the TDP had also sent out wrong signals by fielding a notorious faction leader from a ZPTC in Kurnool district.
The TDP's criticism that the Government was pruning the security cover of its leaders was also baseless since as 87 TDP leaders were provided with gunmen compared with 88 of the Congress.
Likewise, he ridiculed the charge that the Congress had forced the TDP candidates out of the contest and bagged 418 MPTCs unanimously. He pointed out that the Congress never blamed the TDP when it bagged 554 MPTCs in the last polls. Among the ZPTCs too, only 10 had been won by the Congress now compared with 26 by the TDP in the last elections.
Mr. Reddy said it was also wrong to claim that the police personnel were not discharging their duties impartially.
In all, 4,513 Congress workers were facing bind over cases in Kadapa district against 3,913 of the Telugu Desam.
The State Election Commission too was impeccable in its conduct but the TDP was regularly hurling accusations against it.
