Tirupati city unit TDP cadres led by State party general secretary, Varla Ramaiah, held a novel protest on Sunday to express their disgust and displeasure over the failure of the State government in tackling the acute power shortage which is leaving the industrial, agriculture and domestic sectors in the State badly crippled besides causing a serious hardships to the students preparing for their examinations.

As though to symbolically say that kerosene lamps and lanterns are the only alternative left, especially the tail-end Chittoor district, hard-pressed as they are for reliable power, the party cadres held a demonstration at the busy Nalagukalla Mandapam with a kerosene lamp/lantern each in their hands.

Addressing the demonstrators, Mr. Ramaiah lashed out at the State government for its failure to get the assured quota of power from the Central government to address the problem of acute power shortage gripping the State.

Among the other party cadres who participated were State Telugu Mahila leader, Vijayalakshmi, and the city party functionaries - R.C. Munikrishna and Neelam Balaji.
