Activists of the Telugu Desam Party began a relay fast here on Thursday in support of the legislators stir in Hyderabad to highlight the power woes of the people.

The activists led by party city president B. Vasukrishna and secretary Kapil Basha paid floral tributes to the statue of NTR before beginning the stir.

Former TDP MLA Edara Haribabu who inaugurated the protest, alleged that the Congress Government was “indifferent” to the plight of people put to severe hardships due to periodic collection of fuel surcharge adjustment.

The Government should come forward to bear the FSA, which had become unbearable for the common people.

He warned of intensification of the protest if power tariff was hiked in April by the Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Party minorities wing leader Pathan Hanif Khan pressed for uninterrupted power supply to farmers and reduction in the duration of power cuts.

The activists demanded restoration of the telescopic system of billing so that those consuming less than 100 units per month would get relief. The long hours of power cuts had hit hard the economy, rendering jobless lakhs of workers, they complained.
